The Challenge
The Challenge was to create a realistic vector portrait in Adobe Illustrator
The Concept
For this task, I elected to use an old image of my grandmother from when she was a model in Japan when she was 18 years old. I decided on a black and white interpretation to give a similar feel to the original photograph; using a simple background, focused on lighting.
The challenge I appointed to myself, was to create a vector portrait as realistic as possible. Every eyelash and eyebrow hair was drawn in an attempt to blur the line between photograph and vector image. I continued the illusion by blending certain tones within her complexion.
Creating the hair proved to be the most difficult part of the process. Through the use of certain textures and brushes, I was able to achieve the complexity and dimension of her hair.
